TOUR OVERVIEW
This tour starts with a morning in Epworth, the little town where the Wesleys were born. Hear about his family in the house where he was lived and sit in the kitchen where Susannah held her famous house meetings. Then we walk a few yards not see the inn where John stayed on his return and his father’s church where, before gathering at the tomb on which he preached.
At the market cross our guide will read the actual words John preached there, then we visit the Wesley Memorial Church, hear how revival broke out in Epworth, and see the rival church set up by the ‘Kilhamites’ who also started in Epworth!
The half day tour ends at this point, but the full day tour then continues after lunch to visit Owston Ferry where John had many friends and nearly died crossing the river. We pass a number of his preaching places on our way to Gainsborough, to see the wonderful medieval Old Hall where John preached – and was famously disturbed by a cockerel!
